Over the past few years, Pentaho has been evolving in multiple ways to better help customers and partners meet their large and growing data management challenges.
This Statement of Direction is one outcome of that evolution. The goal of this document is to give customers and partners a clear understanding of how we are seeing the market and their needs developing, and how we’re planning to meet and exceed those needs through our products.
Our plan is to continually enhance and extend our products to create more value for customers when taking on real-world challenges, be it on-premises or in hybrid environments, with flexible, lightweight, interoperable enterprise-grade solutions.
As always, we welcome customer feedback, it’s crucial to how and why we invest in product enhancements. We will continue to actively engage through feedback sessions, support channels, and market research to identify use cases, opportunities for improvement and new challenges.
Companies face an explosion of data types and sources. They need solutions that help them manage, govern, and get value from it all, amid growing regulatory pressure. And they need to do it without adding complexity to day-to-day decisions and management.
And they need the ability to control this growing complexity with smarter, simpler data management that can bring clarity to data chaos. In essence, they need to get data-fit, with data that is agile, visible and running at peak performance, to power their goals and help them step ahead of the competition.
At Pentaho we are addressing these needs with intelligent, flexible, and easy-to-use solutions that make quality data usable and trusted across the whole organization, to power innovation and drive revenue.
Pentaho offers five core products, all of which can be deployed individually and integrated into existing ecosystems or as part of an integrated set of solutions in the Pentaho platform.
Pentaho is made up of key solutions:
The latest version of Pentaho is 10.2.5, a long-term support release issued in fall 2024. All versions of the products moving forward will be delivered as long-term support releases. Our current release cycle for Pentaho Data Integration and Pentaho Business Analytics is once every six months, with 11 coming in Fll 2025. The release cycle for Pentaho Data Catalog is once every quarter, with the next version in Fall 2025, with intra-quarter incremental updates released as needed.
Pentaho Data Optimizer is on a once every six-month release cycle as well.
Pentaho Data Integration (PDI) and Pentaho Business Analytics – We continue to enhance our flagship data integration solution to enhance how it interoperates with other solutions across the platform, including enhancements to the UI/UX to create a modern, standard and easy to use interface across all our products. We are also working on embedding support for more modern ELT patterns to support emerging workloads, especially around AI. We will also be deepening the integration with our catalog to support data and AI observability.
Pentaho Data Catalog (PDC) – The focus for PDC will be in a few key areas in helping organizations in their AI journeys. In addition to data quality, sensitivity, lineage and trust, catalog will support data products and data labeling. Our continued focus on unstructured data will enable organizations to deliver data for LLMs. We will extend observability from Data to Data & AI and add model governance to our data governance capabilities.
Pentaho Data Optimizer (PDO) – We are working on embedding a natural language experience and native reporting into PDO to enhance customer FinOps efforts, especially when dealing with data demands for AI and GenAI, which are pushing data storage and management costs to new heights. These enhancements will help customers to more effectively manage their ROT (Redundant, Obsolete, Trivial) data strategies while also considering how those strategies support existing and emerging regulations. We will continue to deliver connectivity additions and features to help organizations purge, migrate, re-tier or repatriate data. Policy driven automation and impact analysis will help organizations optimize data with no interruptions in operations or services.
Starting with our 10.2 release Pentaho Data Integration is now available in four licensing tiers, including a new Starter Edition with entry-level pricing and limited support. Pentaho Data Integration and Pentaho Data Catalog can also be deployed alongside hyperscalers as part of a hybrid data management strategy and are available on both the AWS Marketplace and Azure Marketplace.
To take advantage of all the latest innovations and features, we encourage our existing community and previous enterprise edition customers to upgrade to version 10.2. We have introduced a new PDI Starter pack to help interested Community Edition customers migrate to a low-cost paid version of Pentaho that delivers significant value. Our Professional Services Team has extensive experience helping customers with upgrades and can support you wherever you are in your data journey.
